AXIAL FANS WITH ELECTRONIC DRIVERS

EC AXIAL FAN

Diameter: 250, 300, 315, 330, 400, 420, 450, 500, 560, 630 mm.


Typical features of the Hidria EC-motor fan
  • High efficiency throughout the entire speed range.
  • Speed setting via linear voltage input (0-10V) or PWM signal.
  • Two analog inputs for easy closed loop control (PID regulator build-in).
  • Both analog inputs can be used as digital inputs.
  • Multifunction digital output (open collector) for tach-out, alarm signal or slave control. Tach-out signal can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 12 pulses per revolution.
  • Analog input adjustment to fit customer’s sensor.
  • All adjustments can be made with a PC or can be factory preseted.
  • Low-noise operation across the entire speed range.
  • Integrated EMC filter.

All features are available on request.

The standard version of an EC-motor fan has:
  • One analog input (0-10V or PWM input).
  • Sensor power supply 10VDC (max 30mA)
  • Tach-out signal (OC) (default: 1 pulse per revolution)

Electrical connection and motor
The three-phase or single-phase EC (Electronically Commutated) external rotor motor integrated into the fan hub meets the requirements for rotating electric machines as defined by the standard EN 60335-2-80:2003. EC motors are suitable for power networks with a single-phase voltage range of 200 to 277 V 50/60 Hz or a three-phase range of 380 to 480 V 50/60 Hz. Other voltages of frequency ranges are
available upon customer request. Refer to the data sheet of each fan for the details.

Motor connection
Mains & control connections are made via a terminal box or outgoing connection cable as shown in the dimensional drawings. The standard connection scheme of an EC fan has terminals to connect:
  • a 1- or 3-phase line,
  • N – neutral,
  • G – ground,
  • analogue input (0–10 V or PWM),
  • SELV power supply 10 VDC (max. 30 mA),
  • MODBUS RTU – serial communication port, and
  • a tach out or error out signal (programmable).
A reference control signal is optional when a built-in PID controller is required.

Terminal box and connection cable
Terminal boxes are made of shock-proof and weather-resistant composite material. Heat- and UV-resistant halogen-free multicore cables are used, marked by a colour code or connection designations as
labelled on the terminal block. The cable construction complies with VDE 0282 Part 804 and is suitable for operating voltages of up to 400 VAC for single-phase products and 690 VAC for three-phase products.

Speed controls
Hidria EC fans are made with an integrated electronic variable speed drive (VSD). Speed variation can be achieved by a speed input signal 0 V to 10 VDC, 4–20 mA, Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) frequency
signal or by use of a MODBUS RTU serial communication port. Please read the EC fan safety, installation and maintenance instructions before any of these speed control schemes are used.

Materials and corrosion protection
Hidria EC Axial fan impellers are made of high-performance PA or PP composite material or steel. The impeller is pressed onto the rotor. The stator flange and electronic cover are made of high-pressure, die-cast aluminium alloy. Additional painting is applied when high-corrosion
protection is requested. Protection grills are made of steel and coated to meet resistance to corrosion according to ISO 12944-2 class C3 (medium). Additional coating is available on request.

Operating conditions and product life

Safety
The fans may only be operated when installed as intended and when safety is ensured by use of safety equipment according to DIN EN 294 resp. ISO13852 (DIN EN ISO 12100) or by other protection measures defined in the user manual.

Safety approvals
Depending on the product, Hidria fans comply with one or more of the following standards: EN 60335-1, EN 61800-5-1 and EN 60034-1. All EC fans are supplied with CE marking. UL/ CSA, CCC, SASO and/or EAC approvals on request. All EC fans meet the requirements of EU Directives ROHS 2011/65/EU and REACH 1907/2006/EC.

Installation orientations
EC fans are intended to be installed with the rotor in a horizontal position or with the rotor at the bottom of the fan (vertical position with the connection box or cables on the top). The lower condensation drain hole must be open when the fan is installed vertically, that is with the rotor at the bottom. With a horizontal mounting position, condensate can escape via the gap between the stator and rotor. Fans suitable for vertical installation with the rotor at the top (connection box or cables at the bottom) or at any other angle are only available on request.

Operating mode
Continuous operation (S1). Use the speed control input signal when On/Off cycling of the EC fan is required. Power supply cycling is only allowed in certain conditions. See the EC fan user manual. Resistance to water, dust and moisture
The majority of axial fans are resistant to the presence of water, dust and moisture as defined by class IP44, IP54 or even IP55 on request (IEC 60529, IEC60034, IEC60335).

Ambient conditions
If not instructed differently, the fans can be subjected to the following conditions:
  • placed outdoors (rain, snow, UV radiation)
  • working ambient temperatures of between -25 °C (-40 °C) and +65 °C
  • maintenance-free bearings, our EC axial fans are maintenance-
  • storage temperatures: -40 °C to +80 °C Product life By utilising lifetime-free for the entire lifetime of approximately 30,000–40,000 hours for standard applications and environmental conditions.
Contact protection
The preferred ‘protective construction’ used on axial fans is a guard grille. Depending on the airflow direction, the guard grille is located on the intake or pressure side of the fan. The ‘Accessories’ section contains separate guard grills which can be positioned on the pressure or intake side of the fan as required and depending on the installation situation, to meet the safety requirements set out in DIN EN ISO13857 defining safety distance requirements to prevent upper limbs from getting into hazardous areas. Be aware that the use of guard grills results in increased resistance to the conveyed airflow, which manifests in additional pressure loss.
