The Murco Gas Sensor (MGS) is a state-of-the-art fixed gas detector which can detect a wide range of different gases. The sensors can be used on a stand-alone basis or integrated into Controls or Building Management Systems (BMS).

It is a high-specification product available at a competitive price and it offers customers absolute confidence that both safety and compliance requirements are met or exceeded.

MGS sensors can be used for:

  • new buildings/areas that require continuous monitoring with high tech gas sensor transmitters.
  • customers who want to add gas detection solutions to an existing system.
  Typical detection applications include:
  • detection of refrigerant gases including: Ammonia, Carbon Dioxide, Hydrocarbons, Halocarbons - HFCs, HCFCs, CFCs.
  • detection of combustible gases such as: Methane, LPG, Propane, Butane, and Hydrogen
  • detection of toxic gases such as: Carbon Dioxide and Ammonia in refrigeration, Hydrogen Sulphide in sewage treatment and Carbon Monoxide in underground car parks
  • detection of volatile Organic Compounds such as: Acetone, Benzene, Carbon Tetrachloride, Chloroform, Ethanol, Toluene, Trichloroethylene.

Murco also supply Control Panels if you wish to have a stand-alone gas detection system. Models are available with 2, 4, 6… and up to 16 channels.

The standard sensor enclosure, IP41, is suitable for applications in normal conditions and in facilities with low levels of dust or moisture.

This enclosure is typically used in plant rooms, machinery rooms, and cold rooms.

The standard models can be used in atmosphere where temperature ranges between -20°C to +50°C (+40°C electro chemical sensor).

In the case of infrared sensor heads for carbon dioxide detection, the standard temperature range is 0°C to +50°C.

  The IP66 version is recommended for applications where high levels of dust, moisture or condensation is present. It is not available for IR CO2 sensors.

The sensor is fitted with a Delrin head with sintered steel face disc which projects outside an IP66 enclosure.

This ensures fast sensor response and prevents condensation reaching the electronics.

It is rated –40 °C to +50 °C. (+40 °C with electrochemical sensors). This is also available with a remote delrin head.

The Remote Head (M42 thread) on 3m cable may be used when you require the sensor enclosure at eye level or for example for a controls enclosure but you want to maintain a leak high up or remote from the sensor enclosure, for say on a chiller.

It may also be used to monitor pressure relief valves (tied off a vent pipe).

The ATEX standard Exd enclosure is typically used in hazardous areas, where flammable gases, vapour fumes or dust are present.

It is available in two versions including a digital display model.

Typical applications include hazardous areas such as machinery rooms, boiler rooms, storage facilities, and refrigeration.

The enclosures are approved for Zone 1 and Zone 2. It is flameproof, explosion proof, and weatherproof (ATEX Ex d IIB+H2).

The ATEX approved Exd remote sensor head is used in hazardous areas, where flammable gases, vapour fumes or dust are present.

This is an economical alternative to the Exd enclosure.

The Exd remote senor head is located in the Ex area and is connected by a 5 meter cable to the enclosure outside the hazardous area: a standard, IP66, or other.

The sensor head is appproved for Zone 1 and Zone 2. Ex d IIB+H2 T6

Typical applications include areas classified as hazardous such as machinery rooms, boiler rooms, storage facilities, and refrigerated areas.

We offer the vent pipe models to monitor weeping from pressure relief valves or similar gas leaks in normal pressure pipes or gas levels in airflows in pipes.

The sensor head is fitted into a threaded gun barrel fitting 1” BSP. It is then wired back to the sensor PCB.

The 1” BSP fitting screws into a tee on the vent pipe 1-2m above the pressure relief valve.

The tee may be drilled (2mm) to ensure any pressurised leakages do not damage the sensor, to ensure gas flow across the sensor face and to allow the introduction of test gas to the sensor.

  The airflow duct mount sensor has been developed to monitor airflows or ducts while allowing easy access to the sensor for maintenance.

It is mounted on the outside of the duct, and a pitot type sample tube extends into the duct. The airflow goes in one leg of the pitot up into the sensor box, where the sensor head lies, and back out into the duct.

Typically they are used to monitor refrigerant leaks in air conditioning systems or any gas in an airflow.

The IP55 enclosure is recommended for applications where dust or moisture, non condensing, is present. The breather drain must point downwards.

Typical applications include: cold stores, swimming pools, outdoor areas, marine industry, and food processing plants.

It can be used for applications down to -40 °C.

This enclosure is also used for Carbon Dioxide low temperature applications (to –40 °C). In this case a small internal heater circuit and switch ensures adequate temperature conditions for the sensor head.

In the case of CO2 it is used when temperature is below 0°C.

In certain installations where aesthetics are very important, we offer an alternative arrangement for the sensor.

You can fit the sensor head behind an elegant stainless-steel face plate (brass option shown) while the rest of the electronics are located in a void.

Alternatively, a metal face plate can be painted to suit your decor.

Because Murco designs and manufactures all its detection systems, it is able to tailor solutions to meet the requirements of any client.
